name is Mariah and I am 19 years old. I just finished my sophomore year at Texas
A&M University - Corpus Christi and will be starting my junior year in the
fall. I have wanted to be a part of this for a long time, but I had short hair
and had to grow it out first.
My older sister Katrina
shaved her head through shear hope five years ago, in June of 2007. I remember
watching her experience this and I was able to experience some of it through her.
She was inspired by our aunt Kathy after she told Katrina of a group of girls
who shaved their hair to benefit cancer patients. Shortly after Kathy told Katrina
of those girls, we got the news that Kathy had leukemia. Kathy passed away because
of the cancer and three years later Katrina participated in Shear Hope by becoming
a Hope Giver.
I have had extremely short hair my entire life, so when Katrina
shaved her head my hair was not long enough to do the same. I have been inspired
to do this by my sister, and have been growing out my hair for two years so that
I could shave my head and donate my hair. I finally have long enough hair to participate
in this wonderful organization and cannot wait to
shave my head for this amazing
cause. I know that this is exactly what God is calling me to do!
